13.116. Restoration, by Kallikrates of the dedication made by his ancestors

Description: Four adjoining fragments from the upper part of a white marble statue base shaft without moulding (together w: 0.50 × h: 0.79 × d: 0.24). Top and bottom are lost, but both sides survive.

Text: Inscribed on the face.

Letters: 0.022; lines 1-2 are cut more lightly than the rest.

Date: Document i, lines 1-2: Late first century BCE. (prosopography, lettering); Document ii: early second century. (prosopography, lettering)

Findspot: Aphrodisias: Necropolis, North-east: MAMA fragments found in a field wall north-east of the Stadium; other fragments stray finds.

I am Victory, always at the side of Caesar, the descendant of a god. Kallikrates son of Molossos, priest of Men Askainos and of Hermes of the Agora, himself restored and re-erected the dedications of his ancestors, the (statue of) Victory and the lion, for the divine Augusti and the People.
