Description: Shaft of a white marble statue base; surviving fragment (w: 0.30 × h: 0.24 × d: 0.13).

Text: Inscribed within a moulded front panel.

Letters: 0.03; circle for stop, lines 12, 14, 18, 19.

Date: Second to third centuries CE (lettering, content)

Findspot: Aphrodisias: Walls, South-east stretch: reused in or near the south east stretch of the walls (Sherard, Wood, Bailie); 'in the west wall' Fellows (presumably in error). Fragment found during excavation of the Bouleuterion/Odeon

Publius Aelius Hilarianos, eques romanus, son of Publius Aelius Apollonianos primipilarius, grandson of Publius Aelius Hilarianos consular, relative of many senatorials and consulars.

Tiberia Julia Antonia Letois, mother and grandmother of senatorials, (set up the statue of) her very dear son.

Publius Aelius Hilarianus, of equestrian rank, son of the [Centurio] Primipilarius Publius Aelius Apollonianus, grandson of the Consularis Publius Aelius Hilarianus, kinsman of many a Consularis and Senator.

Tiberia Julia Antonia Letois, a mother and aunt of Senators, [erects this in honour of the above P. Ae1. Hilarianus], her sweetest son.

Commentary

This man was honoured, in identical terms, by his mother (here) and by his father (12.17).
