12.314. Building dedication under Domitian.

Description: White marble monumental block with wide flat mouldings, from which some moulding has been chipped away to facilitate reuse broken into five fragments, of which only a has been found again. The mouldings suggest that this could have served as a lintel over a doorway. a, left side fragment: w: 0.93 × h: 0.55 × d: 0.44; b: upper right corner w: 1.02 × h: 0.19; c: Lower right corner, lines 8-9; d: Upper centre fragment, lines 1-4; e: upper centre fragment, lines 1-2.

Text: Inscribed on the broad upper moulding (lines 1-7) and on a lower moulding (lines 8-9).

Translation

To the goddess Aphrodite, to Imperator Domitianus Caesar Augustus Germanicus and the whole house of the Augusti and to the People. Adrastos son of Apollonios the son of Hypsikles the son of Menandros the son of Zenon who was priest of Helios and high priest of Vespasianus Caesar Augustus, dedicated the reservoirs and the water tanks in them, and the flow of water throughout the city, having bought all the land on either side and the ?streets/quarters and having ?restored them to the city and having carried out all the works in them, in conjunction with his daughter Ammia, daughter of Adrastos the son of Apollonios. He dedicated to the gods named above and to the people from his own personal resources. Ammia his daughter was responsible/?oversaw (the work).
