. . .honured with . . . honours] Aurelia Ammia Myrton, daughter of Demeas, son of Chresimus, who was the wife of Marcus Aurelius Diogenes, son of Diogenes, son of Kallias — a man who was a leader in our city both by birth and by rank, and who completed all the public offices and liturgies. She, Myrton, lived with dignity as an example of virtue; and upon her death, she left to the most sacred Council for eternal allotments, in an index of debtors, the sum of 2,545 silver denarii, according to the bequest made by her. And Marcus Aurelius Diogenes III (scil. son of Diogenes, son of Diogenes), son of Kallias, son of Diogenes, son of Menippus, son of Zenon Hypsikles, her son, who himself is of the highest rank, having completed all public offices and liturgies, including the treasurership (argyrotameia) for the People and generously disposed toward the most sacred Council, arranged and himself dedicated 1,500 silver denarii, according to the previous decrees of the Council. [This was done] so that the intention which Myrton ordained should remain: that (scil. distributions) be given each year on the 12th day of the 6th month and the 18th day of the 9th month.

Und bei ihrem Tode hinterliess Aurelia Ammia Myrton, Tochter des Demeas, dem hochheilgsten Rate zur Verlosung auf ewige Zeiten durch Aufstellung der Schuldnerliste, welche, von ihr angefertigt, hinterlassen wird, 2545 Silberdenare; auch ihr Sohn M. Aurelius Diogenes . . .. weihte 1500 Denare entsprechen den früher gefassten Ratsbeschlüssen nur dass die Verordnung der Myrton zu Recht bestehen soll, dass nämlich die Verteilung jährlich im Monat Tiberius und Monat Thie . . . . veranstaltet werde.

Commentary

In lines 34-5 Robert saw that the letters must in fact be numerals, giving the number of the month, and of the day; he conjectured that Sherard's T was a misreading of iota. From Deering's copy it is clear that the letter which Sherard read as T was a capital stigma. Distributions in the sixth and ninth months would be better spaced than in the tenth and ninth.
