13.603. Funerary inscription for Marcus Aurelius Attikos

Description: White marble garland sarcophagus (with lid) with 2 eagle medallions : w: 2.23 × h: 105

Text: Inscribed on a tabella (w: 0.46 × h: 0.58, die 0285 × 0.40). In the inscribed area the spaces between guide lines for lines 2-6 are slightly sunk; at the right (and possibly the left) end of the sunk area containing line 6 the cutter has added a 'handle', as if under the impression that he was supposed to make a tabella ansata here.

Letters: 0.03; square sigma

Date: Probably third century CE (lettering, nomenclature)

Findspot: Aphrodisias: Necropolis, West area: near New Geyre, with 13.602 and 13.604
