Low plain ‘roof’ lid with four unworked bosses for
akroteria; in the pediments small phialai; the chest has a tall upper lip and a laurel-pattern lower border; front and sides
framed by narrow fluted pilasters with capitals
and bases; on the front a rectangular tabula, held by two small Erotes; left and right of the tabula narrow garland swags
from which bunches of grapes are hanging;
within the two swags a young Dionysos and a satyr with a pine-wreath; on the short sides a narrow garland swag with a long-horned
Pan mask and a stern Silenus.

lines 4-5 on the upper rim, line 6 on the moulding beneath it, lines 7-14 on the tabula.

(Made while still) alive. This sarcophagus and the niche underneath it together with the platform belong to Aurelia Apphia,
daughter of Attalos Amyntianos, son of Artemidoros; in this sarcophagus shall be buried the aforementioned Apphia, alone.
No one shall have authorisation to bury inside another body, for he shall pay to the most sacred treasury 3500 -, one-third
of which shall belong to the prosecutor. In the niche shall be buried Aurelia Tatia, her alumna, alone. No one shall have
authorisation to bury any other body or to remove a body, for he shall be subject to the same fine. A copy of this inscription
has been deposited in the registry under the stephanophorate of Attalis for the 12th time, in the month of Kaisar. I, Aurelia
Apphias, daughter of Attalos deposited this.
