Inscriptions of Aphrodisias 2027

11.225. Prayer of Theodoros, 'the Bell'

Description: A masonry block (0.58 × 0.73 × 0.25) pierced with five holes - the largest is in the centre, surrounded by four others arranged in a square. The holes do not impinge on the text, and could conceivably form part of the original monument, but it seems more probable that the stone was re-used. The surface is worn, especially at the lower left corner.

Text: The inscription runs along the edge, below the holes.

Letters: The letters are cut between guidelines; av. 0.02; scroll, following or above letter, for abbreviation.

Date: Fifth-tenth century CE (lettering, content)

Findspot: Aphrodisias: City, Water Channel area , section 5.

Original location: Unknown.

Last recorded location: Museum.
