Inscriptions of Aphrodisias 2027

14.35. Building inscription from a church of St. Michael

Description: White marble architrave block, broken to right (w: 1.98 × h: 0.35 × d: 0.555) with a plain moulding, interrupted by mutules, above a single plain fascia. Probably Hellenistic.

Text: Inscribed in two lines on the fascia, which is rough, perhaps from the erasure of another text, but more probably because it was never prepared for an inscription.

Letters: Clear, angular; 0.05.

Date: Sixth century. (lettering, formula)

Findspot: Plarasa: uncovered during works 200 m from Bingeç on the road to Yaykın, on the right.

Original location: Unknown: the block is probably Hellenistic, re-used presumably in a church dedicated to St. Michael.

Last recorded location: Museum
