Inscriptions of Aphrodisias 2027

8.275. Epitaph of Theodokios

Description: Two joining fragments of a white marble plaque (w: 0.17 × h: 0.29 × d: 0.065), with upper and right edge partly surviving. The stone appears to have been cut down—rather than simply broken—to the left, so that it is difficult to know what length of lines to assume.

Text: Inscribed across the centre of the face.

Letters: Very rough and irregular; 0.02-0.025.

Date: Sixth century CE or later. (lettering)

Findspot: Aphrodisias: Tetrastoon: West portico area.

Original location: Unknown.

Last recorded location: Museum.
